The Makongeni youth group is a non-political and religious registered as a self-help group under the social service department in 2010 found in Kwale County, Msambweni Sub-county Kinondo Ward. The group’s main goal is to empower and engage youth from the community to participate in community development. Currently more than 30 members are connected to the youth group varying in age from years 17 to 35 and with a variety of educational, religious and social backgrounds. The main objective for its establishment was to give all youth within the community opportunity to participate in a process of improving their ability to express their interest, participate in capacity building activities and improve their wellbeing. Since its inception the group has been involved in community projects such as the creation and maintenance of a computer learning centre and a free studying room, strengthening the confidence of the youth and their work, developing general skills, building character and promoting citizenship, volunteerism and patriotism as well as promoting healthy lifestyle of the youth and community members.
CIVS Kenya is a community development agency operating especially in the marginalized and poverty-stricken rural areas of Kenya. We pursue an integrated socio-economic and cultural development approach in the fight against poverty and social exclusion of Kenyan communities under the maxim “development by people”. We believe that people should retain the responsibility for their own development while CIVS supports, guides and mentors their efforts with innovative and customized high quality services. CIVS achieves this aims through its two program areas: International Voluntary Service (IVS) and Community Development.
