Somdejya Learning Community Demonstration School, Bodhivijalaya College Srinakharinwirot University Mae Chaem District, Chiang Mai is alternative school and learning center for hill tribes who come from poor family and very remote area on the mountain. This learning center is provided to them free education, accommodation, food and occupation training as important as culture conservation of their culture. The students are Karen and Hmong hill tribes. It is not only studied in the classroom, they Learning King Rama 9 sufficient economy theory on agriculture and natural living. The foundation organizes the non-formal education school together with nature living, produce their own organic food and education. gaps between city and country is still a difference in Thailand. We need volunteers to give more opportunity for the children and people in the countryside to link between global and local, improve the local and global situation of natural environment, culture, poverty, and human rights, support local NGOs, and self-sufficiency and human development of the local community, promote friendship, understanding, and solidarity among world youth and local people.

Travail

Base on community living, every work are coming by daily life. That is mean everything even generally is valuable in any case such as learning, teaching, cleaning, repairing, and building. Segregation works for Community Development are; Creative teaching English – Creative teaching is important to recognize; teaching does not need for specific quality of volunteer but creative is the one of yours. Aims of creative teaching are giving the chance for people in the village or the place nearby have the opportunity to communicate with different language, touch difference culture, and believing. Teaching Activity is that the volunteer would do the activities base on intercultural and language with the games, songs, storytellings, and dancings. Also, it should focus on communication; listening and speaking. Farming – Working together at the small farm with the local students in 5 different occupation training farm as their have to work on these in daily; cow farms, pig farms, fish and fog farms, rabbit farms, chicken farms. The volunteer could plant more vegetables with students for the school lunch project. Building relationship with the villager – The rest of time from your main work, the important thing is to learn and share with the villager by visiting, talking and doing activities with them. You will get rich experience by learning and sharing from each other. Ecotourism – There are many interesting places to visit in the community such as the Buddhist temple, waterfall, national park etc. The volunteer would go to visit this places and collecting garbage, promoting recycle and keeping the place clean.

Logement & Nourriture

The volunteer will stay in the alternative school learning center. • Nature environment, basic and simple. • Mattress, pillow, and fan are provided. • Thai toilet and bath. • Washing clothes by hand. • No food and drinks except water in the sleeping area for your care because some animals such as the mouses, ants, will come to share your food. • Please keep clean and tidy. Volunteers expect to eat Thai food. The school will prepare the food for the volunteer.

Emplacement & Temps libre

There are many beautiful tourist attractions in Chiang Mai province. The weather in January is approximately 10 – 30 degree Celsius. We would like to recommend the local temples, Chiang Mai Walking Street Market and Doi Inthanon National Park. The local temples – There are over 300 temples in Chiang Mai. The most popular temple is Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. Once time, you should go to visit! Chiang Mai Walking Street Market – The night market where you can buy the handmade souvenirs among the chilling atmosphere. Moreover, there is a night Bazaar Market in the center of Chiang Mai city. The market is full of the shops for 2 kilometers. You will find many shopping stores, restaurants, and hotels. Doi Inthanon National Park – The mountain is located in Mae Chaem district where the camp is created. It is the highest spot and mountain in Thailand. • Teaching clothes, every shirt needs to cover the shoulders, trousers for man and skirt for the woman, the skirt should cover your knees. Important! No camisole, tank top or shorts, you are a volunteer who respects the culture, not a real traveler. • Brogue shoe or canvas shoes • Medicine as you think necessary • Mosquito repellant • Cap or hat as Thai weather is hot. • Your traditional music and costumes (CDs, ideas for games/ activities). • Materials or sources (brochures, maps, souvenirs, pictures, flags, or handicrafts to introduce your country and culture). • Toilet paper (you can buy at the local shop in the village) • Sunglasses and sun-block cream
