Some studies have proved that, Children spend more time in School than home. The physical environment of school buildings and school grounds is therefore a key factor in the overall health and safety for students (Kids) staff, and visitors. School buildings and grounds are expected to be designed and maintained to be free of health and safety hazards, and to promote learning. Friendly environment for Children is expected to increase performance hence contribute to the better future. Children for better future is a project aiming to complementing the efforts by the Government to create safer and conducive learning environment for children from Primary to Secondary schools level. Outcomes of this project is expected to contribute significant change in school performance.
UVIKIUTA is a vibrant Tanzanian youth development organization established in 1983 under the patronage of the late Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere, First President of the United Republic of Tanzania. UVIKIUTA came into existence in response to a government call for all unemployed youth to form economic groups through the then famous policy known as “Nguvu kazi”, which responded to the needs of young men and women to raise their living standards. It helped establish youth settlements and self-help projects to provide income, employment, and permanent shelters.
Volunteers are expected to be engaged in the following activities:- Class rooms decorations and renovations: Assist in painting official school colours in the walls of the class rooms. Assist in fix walls and floor which need maintenance in the school. Compound beautification: Assist in grass cutting, collecting waste and develop path ways for walking in the school compound. Assist in proving environmental education and information to the students, establishment of garbage disposal sites including trash bins in the classes and provide education on how to separate and dispose garbage. After school activities: Assist in organising extra-curricular activities to the kids and teenagers (7-17 years old) after school hours. This includes sports, games, English Language, arts, crafts, remedial classes mostly for mathematics subject etc. (depending on volunteers’ interest and skills).
Logement & Nourriture
Meals: Three meals will be provide each day at the accommodation. We will have kitchen volunteer responsible in meals preparations, however volunteers are expected to help in meals preparation and dish washing. (Vegetarian meals will be available) Accommodation: At the communal house in the community. Rooms will be shared between 4-6 people, no bed but mattress will be provided on the floor (Comfortable enough). Water and electricity will be available. No washing machine available.

Chake-chake is part of Pemba Island, known as "The Green Island" in Arabic. (It is an island forming part of the Zanzibar archipelago lying within the Swahili cost in the Indian coast. With a land area of 988 square kilometers (it is situated about 50 kilometers to the north of Unguja, the largest island of the archipelago). The Island is accessible through fast ferries and flight from Zanzibar, Dar es Salaam or Tanga towns. Most basic social needs are available e.g. Banks, Markets, mobile phone signal, shopping centers etc. You can search more information about transport service to and from this Island by fast ferries or flights connecting from you country or domestic. Saturdays, Sundays and Public holidays are considered free time for the volunteers. You shall take opportunity of this moment to explore Pemba Island famous known as “spice Island”. It is gifted with various natural, cultural and touristic attractions. Note: We are still maintaining contacts from the good service providers to visit those wonderful place in an affordable prices. Please let us know if you need more help.
Motivation letter: ML should respond to the following questions; why would you like to participate in this project? (Your main motive), How do you plan to contribute to this project? What do you hope to learn and gain from this experience? How will you make advantage of this experience for the “next step” in your life? Interest: You do not need to be professional painter or engineer however those who are interest to work with youth and teenagers, open minded, flexible, lover of outdoor manual dirty work will enjoy most. Invitation letter: You need to have official invitation letter from UVIKIUTA before starting visas application process and fights booking. Engagement contract: This document need to be signed before starting visas application and flights booking process. Visas: Visas can be obtained at the airport on arrival, boarder entries, and Tanzania Embassies and consulate nearest to you. Present the invitation letter to receive the right visas for your project. Vaccination and medical service: Visit your doctor for medical information and requirements before coming. Do not trust much internet information.
Nearest Airport:- Pemba Airport; you may wish to Land in Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar International airport and then take fast ferry or small plane to Pemba Island. (All info are online) Pick up service: On arrival in Tanzania, you will be picked up by our staff, local volunteer, or Transport service provider agent. Provide your travel information at least seven working days before the project start to allow time to manage all logistics to welcome you to Tanzania. Please be advised that, we can only provide pick services from the following points:- Pemba Airport Mkoani, Pemba Ferry Terminal Any other accommodation facility within Chake Town You deserve one complementary pick up service- when the second one apply a volunteer is asked to contribute to the transportation cost. Meeting point, date and time: Volunteers will be picked in front of Gombani Stadium, Pemba on the 10th February 2019 at 15:00 hrs. Local time (Please let us know if you cannot make it on time). If you wish to arrive earlier in Pemba Island or stay longer after the project you can book your own accommodation but we can also provide help when requested. Please keep in mind that according to Tanzanian law, volunteers who want to do their projects in Tanzania will have to get business visa that costs 250€
