Description

During the health pandemic and economic crisis, the idea arises of creating this farm, where the agricultural, fish, poultry, pig and bovine areas converge, with the aim of harvesting natural products, food, friendly to the environment and accessible, both to our family nucleus, as well as to the general population of the Parrita area and to provide food for people with disabilities at the Nueva Esperanzas Residence and El Fénix Residence. Also serve as a contribution to sources of employment or other exchange opportunities with nationals and foreigners who like to share their strength, knowledge or contributions that come to strengthen the development of the farm and care for the environment.
 

The community of El Tigre is a small town of approximately 40 families dedicated to agriculture and commerce. It is safe and quiet; the people are very nice and with many years of coexistence. It is located three kilometers from the center of Parrita.

PARTENAIRE

ACI is a non-profit organization founded in 1967, whose main goal is to promote programs of intercultural learning and international volunteer service (IVS) for people from all around of the world, facilitating their experience in social and ecological projects, developing global citizens. ACI wants to contribute to solidarity and friendship between the different societies of our globalized world, to sustainable human development, and personal growth of our participants.

Localisation

location El Tigre de Parrita, Puntarenas, 500 metres south of the school of El Tigre (El Tigre de Parrita, Puntarenas, 500 metros al sur de la Escuela El Tigre)

Informations supplémentaires

-The volunteer has to be an organized, structured person. 
-Basic Level of Spanish and/or English
-To be respectful towards the internal rules of the project
-To love nature as the main goal of this project
-To be very flexible and to do different tasks during the day which may involve cooking and cleaning, as volunteers may also be responsible of taking care of the house/finca.
-Interest in environmental issues.
-The volunteer should enjoy working with people and foster good human relations.
-Proactivity is a must.
-Volunteer must be ready to work independently even when the person responsible (Don Javier) is not present.
-Honest, responsible, punctual, positive person.
-Leadership Skills.
-Good and respectful attitude.
-Open to flexibility of schedules.
-Willingness to learn.

Remarques

The cost of the volunteer project : 400 USD for the first 4 weeks (for shorter periods a specific rate will be done). Then it is 100 USD per extra week.

Each project has a different cost, which includes lodging and 3 meals a day. Note that the program does not include daily local transportation.

 

This cost includes:

  • Accomodation and food at the project
  • Transfer from the Airport to the hostel
  • 2 nights at a hostel when you arrive
  • Orientation day (introduction day to costarrican history and culture, and also a city tour through main places in the capital city of Costa Rica

This cost does not include:

  • ACI support and coordination: 206€ (this fee has to be pay only once, it is not depending on how much time you will stay). 

 

Remarks:

  • The volunteer should be passionate and motivated once in the project. 
  • If the volunteer smokes, they have to do it outside of the house. 
  • The weather can be really hot and rainy during the rainy season.
  • To be able to occupy yourself in your free time, as there will not always be activities to do. 
  • Schedule of Monday to Saturday shouldn’t scare you away, the family is very open and tolerant when it comes to weekend trips.

Travail

Main goal of the project: lead the production of organic food, oriented towards respect for nature in the tropica.

 Volunteers will be working in: 

  • Agriculture, aquaculture, food security,
  • General work in green areas,
  • Every possible task on a farm (plant, harvest, processing)

From Monday to Saturday: The ordinary working day is 6-8 hours, and the organization is variable, as it depends on the type of work, it can be 8 hours straight or divided into the morning and afternoon shift. 
Oftentimes about 4 hours of farm work at the Finca and then 2-4 hours of work in the house (cooking, cleaning, painting, gardening, doing the groceries)

Logement & nourriture

 The house of the host family is in the center of El Tigre. They also have a lot of plants and fruits growing in their garden. It is a very open and welcoming house with plenty of ventilators to help against the very hot weather. Food is also provided.

Emplacement & temps libre

 El Tigre is also located really close to one of the most famous National Parks in Costa Rica, which is called Manuel Antonio, one of the most beautiful places in the country. 

 

You will have time to disover the area and get to know the culture more in deep during your free time (mostly sundays).
