The Verdiazul Life Association (AVIVE) is an independent non-governmental non-profit group born in 2010. The goal is to ensure the conservation of threatened ecosystems and contribute to the well-being of communities which depend on them. Verdiazul attempts to reduce the poaching of turtle eggs. They take care of the pacific leatherback turtles (CBP) at Junquillal Beach in order to ensure optimal conditions for nesting turtles.
Required skills and interests etc. of the volunteer:
• Good physical condition
• Basic knowledge of Spanish as foreign language
• Older than 18 years
• Be willing to work and learn,
• Be proactive and dynamic
• Have strong environmental values
• Love nature
• Willing to collaborate in outdoor activities and field work
• Work at least for 15 days
• Medical and travel insurance required
• Willingness to live in rural and simple accommodation
• In case that you are a professional, resume must be also present with the application form
• Cover own travel costs such as transportation, hostel (for the first days after your arrival), personal items and international insurance
• Bring mid-height footwear for gardening work

A minimum stay of 2 weeks at the project is required. Local transportation, international insurance and airfare will be covered by the volunteer.
The volunteers will stay in the “main lodge”, and in high season (December-March) there is an additional volunteer´s house down the road. The rooms are gender-separated. There´s electricity, good wi-fi signal, hammocks, a common area to play and to eat. 3 meals per day are included.
The headquarter is located in Playa Junquillal of Santa Cruz, Costa Rica and since 2001 working for the conservation of sea turtles and the Rio Nandamojo. Junquillal is a very important breeding area for endangered leatherback turtles (Dermochelys coriacea), black (Chelonia mydas agassizii) and Loras (Lepidochelys olivacea). / Schedule for the volunteer: 6-8 hours a day (depending on tasks), 5 days a week. Weekends are off. There are always other volunteers staying in Verdiazul.
