The ijgd has been organising volunteer service programmes since 1949. We are an independent, non-profit association for international youth work, a recognised independent youth welfare organisation, and one of the largest and oldest workcamp organisations in Germany. Each year, we assist around 5,000 young people into volunteer work in Germany and abroad. We give them the opportunity to be creative, act in solidarity, take responsibility for themselves, and discover their own true potential and strengths. Our principles: Ecological learning, voluntary contribution, self-organisation, social development, intercultural learning, gender equality, anti-racism/anti-discrimination and political education. Travail

Your task with the forestry and nature conservation department of the Alb-Donau district is to maintain or restore a wetland biotope (pond and watercourses), to maintain a juniper heath and rough grassland near Mochental. You cut the pond free, repair the dam if necessary and remove overgrown creepers from the pond so that many animal and plant species can spread there again. Juniper heaths developed here in the past through grazing with sheep and goats and are protected as the most species-rich biotopes in Central Europe. They are in danger of becoming wooded again. You will remove shrubs and trees to create space and light for the rare plant species, insects and birds that live there. You will be guided by the forest ranger, a forestry master and forestry trainees.
