The ijgd has been organising volunteer service programmes since 1949. We are an independent, non-profit association for international youth work, a recognised independent youth welfare organisation, and one of the largest and oldest work camp organisations in Germany. Each year, we assist around 5,000 young people into volunteer work in Germany and abroad. We give them the opportunity to be creative, act in solidarity, take responsibility for themselves, and discover their own true potential and strengths. Being a team player is a plus. It also helps to be physically fit and interested in nature since you will work outside and with plants and soil.
Please note: There is a special Teenage Fee of 150€ for international volunteers who applied under 18 in this camp.
You will need to pay for a city ticket, please bring 66€ for the ticket with you to the workcamp.

Remarques

Covid Rules (may change depending on the course of the pandemic): 2G+: Only vaccinated and recovered persons can register for the workcamp. All participants must arrive with an official negative rapid test (not older than 24 hours) or PCR test (not older than 48 hours). On arrival, this and a vaccination or recovery certificate must be presented, and a self-rapid test must be carried out. Thereafter, the entire group must perform a rapid self-test at least every 72 hours. We will provide self-rapid tests for the arrival and the whole camp period! Subject to changes! You will receive more detailed information after confirming your registration and at least 3 weeks before the start of the camp with the specific info sheet for your camp.

Travail

During this work camp you will help the gardeners of park Sanssoucci to maintain the lawns, walk ways and flower beds. Together you will learn about the plants and flowers that make the park as beautiful as it is. You will pull out weeds and other unwanted plants, move broken branches from paths, rake flowerbeds or collect dead plants and leaves. The park is very big so there is always something you can do.
The work usually starts early in the morning in order to avoid the hot afternoon sun. This also gives you more time to enjoy your free time, do trips and have fun together as a group after work.

Logement & nourriture

You cook together. Money for the food shopping is provided to you. Vegetarian or vegan meals are possible. Please indicate any allergies when registering.
You will stay in shared bedrooms at the project house Potsdam-Babelsberg. The house has a nice garden with a fire place which you can use. The house is also used by creative and crafty people which are super nice to hang out with.

You will meet at the accomodation.

Emplacement & temps libre

Potsdam has a lot to offer. Since you already work at the beautiful parks of Sans Soucci there are great parks, a castle and other places that used to host royalty. In the city center you can find bars and shops, museums and cinemas. During a hot summer day you can also take a trip to a nearby lake and go for a swim. If you are interested in German movie making you can go visit the film museum or the film park Babelsberg which they even used for international movies. Also, Potsdam is just a train ride away from Berlin which makes it perfect for a day trip to our country`s capital.
