Nazareth Sisters of the Annunciation Dispensary is an outreach clinic operating in Mujwa, Meru County. The purpose for its establishment was to care for maternity cases, treat and care for malnourished children, women, and patients mainly suffering from communicable diseases like measles, and whooping cough. In 1961 a small building was constructed by Catholic nuns to serve as a dispensary facility for handling antenatal/ postnatal mothers, children and the sick. Since then, the dispensary has grown to cater for the health needs of vulnerable groups such as mothers, sick infants and children in the area. Nazareth Sisters of the Annunciation dispensary Nkabune is under the management of the Nazareth Sisters of the Annunciation with the help of eight employees.
Nazareth Sisters of the Annunciation dispensary Nkabune is supported mainly by the local community and there is very little income received from the user fee which is paid by patients out of pocket this is because most of the patients are exempted or waived. It is not therefore possible to employ more staff therefore, without the support of volunteers the expectant women and children will continue experiencing problems such as maternal and infant morbidity /mortality rates as a result of home delivery.
The dispensary receives approximately 25-50 patients daily. Services offered at the dispensary include:
• Outpatient services
• Maternity services, mother and child care
• School Health Services
• Home Visiting
• HIV testing
• Minor surgeries for pupils and students

When you are booking your flight, please make sure that your arrival is at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi.
There will be an orientation seminar for new volunteers lasting three days including Nairobi city introduction. Our monthly orientation seminar starts on the first Monday every month. It would be good if the volunteers can arrive at least one day before the orientation starts. However, if a volunteer will arrives on another date, we can still organize for a full orientation.
