PARTENAIRE

The Medical Missionaries of Mary Mukuru Health Program is a community health center that was started in 1995 by catholic nuns. It initially started as a home-based care center for mothers and children then it later started to provide outpatient medical services for all. The center provides assistance to the entire residents of the informal settlement of Mukuru Kwa Njenga and parts of Industrial area. With the vision of achieving a healthy sustainable and just society, the main objective for the program is to improve the quality of life of Mukuru Communities. They also aim to be the most committed, efficient and effective health provider of holistic care, to empower the community to take active role in their own health and development. The program provides comprehensive primary health care services including curative outpatient services and community health. They include, HIV testing and counseling, Laboratory diagnostic services, Tuberculosis clinic, maternal child health services, nutritional screening and support, community social care services, cervical cancer screening, occupational therapy, ultrasound services, and prevention of gender-based violence, awareness on human trafficking. The facility serves approximately 200 patients per day. There are 22 full time staff including 3 Catholic nuns providing medical and administration services. The facility is open Monday to Friday, with at least 2 times a week community programs like free HIV, HPV and blood pressure screening, vaccinations etc.

Remarques

Requirements from Volunteers: • Scrubs/ lab coat • Medical School Certificates preferably in nursing • Insurance Volunteers will commute to the project using one trusted motorbike rider every day.

Travail

• Learning and assisting to offer vaccinations • Assisting in HIV testing and counseling • Assisting to Co-coordinate and taking care of patients. • Assisting to take patients samples, pulses and temperature information. • Preparing and updating records in the hospital. • Providing advice and emotional support to patients. • Participating in community social care services, HIV testing, cervical cancer screening, occupational therapy, awareness on prevention of gender based violence and human trafficking

Logement & nourriture vegetarian

Our volunteer will be accommodated by a host family in Buruburu where he/she will have his/her own room. Food (breakfast and dinner) will be provided by the host family while lunch will be provided at the project site. CIVS staff will be available throughout to provide guidance to the volunteers at the project.

The volunteer in this project have opportunity to explore Nairobi city and visit place like Giraffe Centre, Nairobi museum, Nairobi National Park among other places
