Uganda Pioneers´ Association (UPA) is an indigenous youth voluntary Non-Government Organization (NGO) registered with the National NGO Bureau in Uganda, under No. S5914/114. The organization focuses on offering youths with the opportunity to contribute to community development by involving them in community projects through workcamps and international volunteer exchanges. The organisation is Not-for-Profit and does not represent any political, religious or sectarian motives.

UPA organizes one of our staff or volunteers to pickup volunteers from the airport in Entebbe or at any bus station in Kampala. (The volunteer or staff will hold a printed out A4 paper with the name Uganda Pioneers Association and the Name of the expected Volunteer. To receive this service you need to confirm your arrival details including flight name, number, arrival day, date and time with UPA and your sending Organisation.

• Emotionally strong. • The volunteer should be ready to interact with marginalized, vulnerable and neglected positive and negative children inside and outside slums and villages. • Ability to work with children and youth. • Kiganda Children for Change Project prefers volunteers in the age of 21 and above, because of the intensity and uniqueness with the street children.

Remarques

Visa The volunteers must apply for a tourist visa online with this link. https://www.visas.immigration.go.ug/ . This should be done a couple of weeks or months before the departure date. The form requires you to fill in the address of the contact person in Uganda and you should use: ZZIWA SAMUEL MUSANYUSA, NANSANA WEST I ZONE, +256785601220. The immigration department sends you an approval document which you must print and present on arrival at the airport. The tourist visa costs 50 US $ and it’s paid during the visa application process on the immigration portal using selected pay cards.

Travail

• Social support to HIV/AIDS orphans and other vulnerable children. • Join in home visits to positive living children or other vulnerable children to assist in food preparation, cleaning (hygiene) basic medical care and counseling. • Office work related to organization development and programming. • Move within the slum communities of Kawempe division and the rural areas of Wakiso, to care givers of orphans. • Volunteers can also spend time working within the studios, ie participating in health talk, talk shows, dialogues, schools where our orphans receive education from and offices of the agencies which support the work of the Project. • Participate in organizing recreational activities, retreats for children. • Music dance and drama • Participate in the Kiganda Children for Change Project; teaching the children basic English/Math, life skills teaching, home visits, fundraising, counseling, writing reports, additional programs such as music, dance & drama, gardening and sports.

Logement & nourriture vegetarian

Accommodation Volunteers has the possibility to choose between staying in the guesthouse, with different international volunteers (sharing room, normally 2-4 people) or to stay in a host family. Accommodation is at the UPA Guesthouse, average but not luxury. Food Volunteers prepare their own food. UPA provides gas cooker, a fridge, and utensils. Alternatively, a volunteer can stay with a host family to be more exposed to the Ugandan culture.

Location KYDA is located on 5 ½ miles from Kampala City along Kampala-Gulu road highway in the Central region of Uganda. LEISURE, The Volunteer may use leisure time to visit some sites around the city which include, Kasubi Tombs, Bahai and Hindu Temples, Uganda Martyrs shrines, local markets, craft shops, Ndere centre, Uganda Museum, Monument sites, Uganda Parliament, factories and other explorations.
