Travail

The Schwarzwasser Valley near Marienberg is one of the most beautiful valleys in the Saxon Ore Mountains. It is a nature reserve and part of the European Natura 2000 protected area system. The area is characterised by the near-natural course of the river and the rocky, predominantly wooded slopes. The work includes the removal of the ‘glandular balsam’ (Impatiens glandulifera), which is spreading en masse on the upper slopes of the valley. As an alien plant species with high competitive power, it displaces native plant species such as the common balsam (Impatiens nolitangere) and meadowsweet (Filipendlula ulmaria). The shallow-rooted plant is pulled out of the ground together with the root ball and disposed of.
