PARTENAIRE

This workcamp takes place in the small Moravian village of Nova Lhota, situated in the White Carpathian Mountains on the Slovak border. The village is very active in environmental activities and education, and runs an eco-centre. They have been collecting herbs and fruits with volunteer help for more than 10 years. In cooperation with INEX-SDA Bílé Karpaty, herbal tea blends are produced in the village from those local types of herbs. The aim of the workcamp is to involve volunteers in these activities and to get to know the local culture and nature.

The meeting point is the location, at any time between 6-8pm. The easiest way to reach the location is by taking the bus to the station “Nova Lhota, dol.zast”, from this station it takes 5 minute to reach this location on foot. Please note that it takes almost 5 hours to get there from Prague by public transport. Detailed travel advice will be provided in the infosheet.

Informations supplémentaires

We are looking for volunteers who like nature and learning about the environment and local traditions. Please, bring a sleeping bag, a sleeping mat, working clothes and suitable shoes, a raincoat to protect you from the rain, a hat to protect you from the sun, good mood, and willingness to meet others. There is no alcohol policy in the place of accommodation.
You will spend a lot of time outdoors so you can get into contact with different kinds of plants, herbs, pollen, and insects.

Study part: You will be able to get to know different kinds of local food and products and learn about organic farming, the history and natural potential of the region. You will have a chance to get involved in the local eco-centre activities. An international evening for the locals will be organised to present volunteers' national cuisines and cultures.

Travail

Volunteers will be involved in making organic herbal tea. It is an important way of promoting local traditions and products in Nova Lhota. They will learn to recognize various herbs, collect them and make herbal mixtures. In order to see the whole production process, they will help in the social enterprise in Nova Lhota where the herbal teas are packaged. They will also take care of greenery in the natural garden and the village of Nova Lhota and help with maintenance of public spaces.

Logement & nourriture

Accommodation will be provided in a tourist hostel in Nova Lhota. Volunteers will sleep in rooms on bunk beds. Toilets and showers are available. There is a common room with a fully equipped kitchen. You will prepare your own meals together. One day you will stay at a farm in Travicna in simpler conditions. Thus, bring a sleeping bag and a mat too.

Emplacement & temps libre

Location: Nova Lhota. The nearby towns are Velka nad Velickou (10 km distance) and Uherske Hradiste (30 km). The region is famous for its folk traditions and beautiful countryside.

Leisure time: You can go on a trip to various sites of interest in the region, such as the regional cities of Straznice or Skalice and visit wine cellars, the Bata canal, windmill in Kuzelov. There is also the possibility to go hiking in the local countryside and even reach the highest peak of the White Carpathian Mountains – Velka Javorina. In addition to that, the volunteers will go on a one-day trip to a farm Travicna (Salaš Trávičná).
