Description

El Centro Integral Infantil Manos Amigas is an Institution which takes care of 30 children and their families from the very poor areas of San José. This center aims to cover the three fundamental areas of education, health, nutrition and psychological health which are essential for the integral development of any human being. They give them food and care as well; Kid’s ages vary from 0 to 6 years. They also organize night patrols to give food to homeless people in San José.

ACI Costa Rica is a non-profit NGO that promotes and runs programs of intercultural learning and international volunteering with young people from all corners of the world, guiding them in their participation in social and ecological projects and helping them to gain new perspectives of the world. In Costa Rica we run several different volunteering programs: sending and receiving, short-term and long-term, for groups and for individuals. We are an active member of ICYE – International Cultural Youth Exchange – a federation of NGOs with its headquarters in Berlin, Germany, and representation on five continents through its partner organizations and committees. ICYE has been declared an International Peace Messenger by the United Nations for its contributions to intercultural learning.

A minimum stay of 2 weeks at the project is required. Local transportation, international insurance and airfare will be covered by the volunteer. Required skills and interests of the volunteer: • Patience, sensitive and tolerance. • Have initiative to teach his or her language to the kids. • Self-starter person. • To be independent and to have lots of initiative. • Ready and able to play games with the children. • Responsible. • Punctual. • Good attitude. • Use of cellphone is prohibited in working hours. • Get along with kids.

Project Fee: $75 per week / Apart from the Project Fee per month, there is a Fee charged by ACI: Weeks Socio Camps 1 to 4 $250 5 to 8 $350 9 to 12 $450 13 + $550 3 volontaires (1 Male / 2 female places libres)

Travail

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 6 to 7 hours per day. Weekends are free. Possible tasks for the volunteer: - Assisting the nannies in charge of the children. - Helping the teachers to create different didactic materials. - Supporting the special activities of the centre. - Cleaning after the children leave. - If the volunteer has initiative and the skills they can also ask for permission to set up their own activities at the centre such as: - Games, songs, etc. - Foreign language classes (e.g. English lessons) - Workshops (music, art, etc.)

Logement & nourriture

The volunteer will live in a host family. 3 meals per day are included.

San José is the capital of the Republic of Costa Rica and the capital of the province of the same name. Located in the center of the country, specifically on the intervolcanic plateau called Central Valley, and contained entirely by the canton of the same name. Its metropolitan area with approximately 3 million inhabitants makes San José the most important political, economic and social center of Costa Rican territory, as well as the main hub for transport and telecommunications. Culturally it can be considered almost in its totality with European influence that gave it Spanish and Italian immigration from its colonization, an influence also imported from France and Belgium, where it generally studied the privileged class of the country in the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century. This can be seen in the distribution of the city that grew around the current cathedral and later in the architecture of it. Your host family will be located close to the project, in which you can find all the basic services (Banks, Supermarkts, Restaurants, Gyms)
