Emplacement & temps libre

Rois is part of the Sar region, in the south of the province of A Coruña. Its cultural heritage is influenced in its historical-artistic component by its proximity to Santiago de Compostela and has exponents of the Baroque in its religious architecture (both in the churches and in the cruceiros of its parishes) and in its civil architecture with the Pazo do Faramello (early 18th century) where one of the first paper mills was located. The Castro de Lupario, also known as the Castro de Beca, is a Galician fort located between the parishes of San Julián de Bastavales (Brión) and Ribasar (Rois). It was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in December 2009. It is easily accessible and remains of the walls can be seen. The Jacobean legend places in this castro the residence of the Raiña Lupa (a character from Galician mythology who appears in the Codex Calixtinus, in which it is told how once the remains of the apostle Santiago arrived at Iria Flavia, they were deposited in the property of a lady named Lupa). Leisure activities: • Approach to the history, culture, customs and festivals of Galicia in general and the municipality of Rois and neighboring towns in particular. • Tour of Rois, a way to get to know all the corners of the municipality, as well as to get in touch with its neighbors and tourists. • Visit to Santiago de Compostela (cathedral, old town, Museo do Pobo Galego, Cidade da Cultura) and the Castro de Baroña located in the municipality of Porto do Son and declared in 2011 an asset of cultural interest by the Xunta de Galicia. • Guided tour of the Rosalía de Castro house-museum, a Galician poet and novelist who is considered one of the great poets of 19th-century Spanish literature. • Guided visit to the Fundación Pública Galega Camilo José Cela, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1989. • Multi-adventure day: archery. • Day of popular games. • Hiking routes through the municipality of Rois. • Traditional workshops: pottery and clay, military symbols, music and Galician language. • River beach. • Night parties.
