Rois is part of the Sar region, in the south of the province of A Coruña. Its cultural heritage is influenced in its historical-artistic component by its proximity to Santiago de Compostela and has exponents of the Baroque in its religious architecture (both in the churches and in the cruceiros of its parishes) and in its civil architecture with the Pazo do Faramello (early 18th century) where one of the first paper mills was located.
The Castro de Lupario, also known as the Castro de Beca, is a Galician fort located between the parishes of San Julián de Bastavales (Brión) and Ribasar (Rois). It was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in December 2009. It is easily accessible and remains of the walls can be seen. The Jacobean legend places in this castro the residence of the Raiña Lupa (a character from Galician mythology who appears in the Codex Calixtinus, in which it is told how once the remains of the apostle Santiago arrived at Iria Flavia, they were deposited in the property of a lady named Lupa).
