The General Directorate of Youth, Participation and Volunteering (www.xuventude.xunta.es) is a department of the Xunta de Galicia (www.xunta.gal) whose priority is to meet the needs and concerns of the young population living in Galicia, firmly believing that youth has much to contribute to society as a whole. We work to improve the quality of life of young people in our autonomous community, developing actions and programs that benefit them, increase their well-being and allow them to improve their skill.

Localisation

Monterrei is located in the south of the Ourense province, bordering the Portuguese border. One of its most emblematic and well-known monuments is the Castelo dos Condes de Monterrei, from the 12th century. In addition, it is very famous for its wines, the DO (Denomination of Origin) Monterrei.

From Santiago de Compostela or from Vigo (via Ourense), you can travel by road by bus (www.monbus.es) or by train (www.renfe.es). www.abanzabus.com and www.alsa.es have their closest stop to Albarellos in Verín, 6km away. The closest train station to the meeting point is in A Gudiña (approximately 30km from Verín). A Gudiña - Verin: www.monbus.com. Travail

The volunteers will be part of a team of archeology professionals who have been searching for the oldest remains of the fortress for some time. Under his instructions, and always with the utmost respect considering the age of the remains to be unearthed, the participants will learn first-hand the attractive archaeological methodology (excavation, drawing, recording, 3D...) and also other auxiliary techniques used to recover all possible information on such an important monument (toponymy, oral informants, etc.). On the north face of the acropolis, in the garden area and in an intermediate area between the wall of the Terceiro Recinto and the Paseo, two types of work will be carried out: - Recovery of Sondaxe 2 carried out in the year 2016 in which a circular structure of stone from Castle is identified a little less than one meter deep, with a lintelled space for a portal, since its chronology and functionality are unknown. - Extension of "Sondaxe 2" in order to obtain a wider horizontal and vertical reading of this circular cabin. - Creation of an extended reality game about the Castle and its surroundings for the tourist dissemination of the Castle as well as its necropolis.

Logement & nourriture

The accommodation will be in the CEIP of Medeiros, in individual bunk beds. And the food will be of the cataring type.

COMPLEMENTARY ACTIVITIES: • Photographic tracing of the Castle. • Water Thermal Route: Cabreiroá, Fonte do Sapo, Sousas, Fontenova and Caldeliñas. We will visit the different springs and do the route. • Visit to a winery of the D.O of Monterrey. • Visit to the Invernadoiro Natural Park. • Route to Pozo do Demo. • Bike route along the Eurocidade Ecovia: being so close to the Portuguese border, we will take the route that connects the Eurocidade de Verín-Chaves. • Paintball.
