Description :
Introduction:

REGION.- Region of Extremadura. Province of Cáceres.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK.- The workcamp ´Primeros Pobladores´ (First
Settlers), which celebrates its X edition this year, is organized
in three main action fields. These correspond to the three main
activities that happen during the camp. This is: excavation,
laboratory work and formation.

Excavation:

The excavations take place in the archaeological
Paleolithic sites of ´El Millar´, ´Santa Ana´ and ´El
Conejar´. ´El Millar´ is a Middle Paleolithic open air site.
´Santa Ana s Cave´ archaeological remains go from the ancient
Lower Paleolithic (over 1,200,000 years ago) to the roman period.
´El Conejar Cave´ remains go from Middle Paleolithic to recent
Prehistory, with lots of Epipaleolithic remains too.

Laboratory work:

In the laboratory, the workcamp´s participants
continue with their formation. This is due to the fact that they
can get familiarized with all the process that follows the
archeological material once it has been removed from the site.
Moreover, they can learn the analysis methods that apply the
specialists in the materials studied. The laboratory work is
dedicated to verify that the field data is correct, to the
preliminary study of the objects found and to their catalogation
and conservation.

Theoric formation:

The camp´s participants learning is eminently
practical, given that it happens during the archaeological
excavation itself. This knowledge is then complemented with a
series of theoretic-formative chats and didactic workshops.

ACCOMMODATION/FOOD.- Camp assistants, together with monitors,
will be lodged in the municipal council refuges, located in the
natural spot of ´San Isidro´ near to ´Los Barruecos´ Natural
Monument. The refuge ´San Isidro´ is at about 5 km from
Malpartida de Cáceres.
Every meal will be held at the ´Piscina Municipal´ restaurant,
in Malpartida de Cáceres.

LOCATION.- The workcamp takes place in Malpartida de Cáceres, 12
km far from the city of Cáceres. This is the town where
participants will be lodged and laboratory works will have place.
The archaeological sites, instead, are situated in different
natural locations between the city of Cáceres and the town of
Malpartida de Cáceres.
