Introduction
Kamachaga youth group is a community based initiative that is focused in improving the livelihood of the marginalized groups in Nyando district of Kenya. The group has taken responsibility to educate the community on the emerging issues that are affecting the community such as HIV/AIDS. It has been in the forefront in advocating for use of the the ABC method i.e. Abstaining, being faithful to one partner and use of condoms to protect themselves. However, it has not also neglected the infected and affected by HIV since they are part and parcel of the community. It has thus been giving them emotional support as well as encouraging them. The group was initiated by the community members. They also support the vulnerable children in the community hence preparing them for their role in the aspect of community development processes. The high HIV prevalence in the region has also made the group to emphasize more on awareness programmes in trying to inform the local people about the virus and ways in which they can be productively involved in passing the information to the next generation. In doing so the many youths have been informed on better ways of living a careful life and knowing their status thus reducing the infection rate in this region.
