Cua Van Fisher Village is a place where there are many beautiful sight-seeing spots surrounding, because it is one part of Halong Bay which is approved as a World Cultural Heritage on Nature. The visibly dominated attractions are friendly local people and picturesque nature, so it is easy to understand why the number of tourists coming to Halong Bay to explore its beauty is increasing. Still there has disadvantaged children who have few accesses to schooling, not mention to higher education. Because of having hard backgrounds, the children at Cua Van Fisher Village often finish their primary schooling and stay at home to help their parents with earning living. Their main jobs are doing fishing, aquaculture fields, and selling goods for foreign tourists so they often communicate with foreigners. Volunteers who work on this project are supposed to teach English for the children organize activities so that they can improve their English and have fun after having hard lessons. One really important part is that volunteers will have different and creative activities to help the children have more knowledge on protecting environment. Local volunteers will support for international ones to manage the work.
SJ Vietnam and volunteers encourage the children to attend the classes regularly for gaining basic English, which will help them a lot in their daily life. We have been increasing their awareness of education which can help them to get a simple job and a better future to ensure their independent living, economic self-sufficiency. Nowadays environment is an important part of Global issues, so the children there also need to have basic understanding about it and join in activities with others to protect the environment of the Earth.
Simple accommodation surrounding project site will be provided. Volunteers have the other choice which is host families, by this way they can improve their Vietnamese language and understanding about Vietnamese life. Volunteers need to bring their sleeping bag, mosquito net, pillow, and a sheet with them. Vegetarian catering is possible.
Exchanges as well as discussions on culture, environment, Global issues… etc will be organized together with one youth Club and local people regularly to have deeper understanding between different cultures. Halong Bay is one of the most famous tourist places in Vietnam so volunteers have the chance to explore its beauty. Seafood there is so delicious and diversified.
